Should you do a Rhino Rider Excursion in St. Maarten?
We’ve tried many excursions off of cruise ships…this one tops the list.
What is the rhino rider excursion?
The Rhino Rider Excursion at St. Maarten is a 2.5-hour tour that allows you to explore the island's coastline and snorkel in its clear waters. You'll drive your own Rhino Rider, a 10-foot inflatable boat that's easy to operate and safe for riders.
The tour begins with a safety briefing and a short training session on how to operate the Rhino Rider. Once you're comfortable, you'll set off along the coast, past the beaches of Simpson Bay and Marigot.
You’ll arrive at Happy Bay, one of St. Maarten's most secluded beaches. Here, you can relax on the beach or swim in the clear water.
The Rhino Rider Excursion is a great way to see the best of St. Maarten in a fun and adventurous way.
Here are some additional details about the excursion:
Duration: 2.5 hours
Price: Starting at $120 per person
Age requirement: 10 years old and up
What did we like?
Safety - We never rode a jet ski, but heard of people falling off of them. Rhinos are designed to be safe. We never felt like we were going to fall off of them.
Friendly crew - The crew members were friendly and accommodating.
Pictures - There was a crew member who rode ahead to take action shots as we passed. At the time we went, it was only $20 for all of the digital photos of us. About 10 photos in total.
Water Color change - St. Maarten is divided into Dutch side and French side. We started on the dutch side and the water was blue, but on the French side, we noticed the water turned emerald green. To see this change on the Rhino was amazing.
What didn’t we like?
Happy Bay Beach - We rode the Rhinos to the Happy Beach, anchored, then people were allowed to swim up to the beach, but areas leading up to the shoreline was rocky and difficult to swim up to. There are no facilities at the beach for food or bathrooms.
